No. 16 Lakehawk Softball Takes Two at Trinity Baptist
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball traveled to Trinity Baptist College (TBC) on Wednesday afternoon for non-conference midweek action. The Lakehawks took two form the Eagles 7-5 and 11-2.
Game One – Lake-Sumter 7, TBC 5
The Lakehawks took a 2-0 lead after a pair of solo homeruns form Emma Christensen and Shannen Luksha in the second and fifth innings.
In the top of the sixth, Valeria Rolon and Christensen lead off the inning with a walk and a double. Then, hits from Megan Wright and Luksha extended the Lakehawks' lead 5-0.
In an attempt to keep the game alive, the Eagles put five runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth bringing the score to an even 5-5.
Emma Chisholm led off the top of the seventh with a single followed by a walk from Christensen. Lily Mitchel, pinch running for Chisholm, was able to score from second on a basehit from Wright.
Ellis added another run to the board for the Lakehawks with a single to left allowing Christensen to score from second.
Trailing by two, the Eagles went three-up-three-down in the bottom of the seventh falling to the Lakehawks 7-5.
Christensen, Luksha, Wright, Ellis, and Maya Hegedus recorded two hits each. Wright, Ellis, and Luksha each also had a pair of RBIs.
Kendall Rumer took the no-decision on the mound with 5.2 innings pitched. Amy Bak recorded the win with 1.1 innings pitched after entering a tie game in the sixth in relief.
Game Two – Lake-Sumter 11, TBC 2 (5 innings)
The Lakehawks took a 1-0 lead to start off game two. After loading the bases, Danika Jones drew a walk to score Wright from third.
The Eagles took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the second before a six-run third inning by the Lakehawks.
The Lakehawks extended their lead in the fourth after a double from Wright scored Sara White from second. Then, Payton Parkes stepped up with a two-run homerun, her fourth of the season.
The Lakehawks defeated the Eagles by mercy rule in five inning in game two for their second win of the day.
Kaitlyn Duquette recorded the complete-game win improving to 8-3 on the mound for the season.
With a pair of wins over TBC, the Lakehawks improve to 28-11 on the season extending their current win streak to 19. The Lakehawks will be back in Sun-Lakes Conference play action on Friday, Apr. 4 against State College of Florida at 1:00 p.m.
