LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) recorded their second Sun-Lakes Conference sweep of the regular season over the weekend against South Florida State College (SFSC). The Lakehawks outscored the Panthers 18-4 in the sweep with a mercy rule shutout in game one.
Game One – Lake-Sumter 11, SFSC 0
Game one in Avon Park, Fla. was off to a slow start before the Lakehawks took a lead in the top of the third. A pair of basehits from Emma Chisholm and Payton Parkes gave Lake-Sumter a 3-0 lead.
The Lakehawks doubled their scored in the fourth extending their lead 6-0. Lake-Sumter secured the mercy rule win in the top of the fifth with doubles from Malayla Miller, Nicole Werking, and Savannah Ellis.
Chisholm went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Parkes, Savannah Ellis, and Sammi Thomas all had two RBIs each.
Amy Bak tossed a complete-game shutout improving to 4-2 on the mound. She allowed just three hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Game Two – Lake-Sumter 8, SFSC 3
Back at The Hawks Nest for Saturday's double header, the Panthers took the lead 2-0 with a homerun in top of first before the Lakehawks took the lead back 3-2 in the bottom half of the frame.
Basehits from Miller and Macie Bourgholtzer in the fourth extended the Lakehawk lead 4-2.
The Lakehawks added four in the bottom of the sixth to solidify their 8-3 game two win.
Parkes went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Ellis went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and one run scored.
Kaitlyn Duquette improved to 3-2 on the mound with 5.0 innings pitched. She allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
Ellis closed out game two with two shutout innings.
Game Three – Lake-Sumter 4, SFSC 1
Lake-Sumter took the lead in game three in the bottom of the third after a hit-by-pitch and a walk from Werking and Thomas. A double from Ellis scored Thomas for a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers tied the game 1-1 in the fourth before a solo homerun from Chisholm put the Lakehawks ahead once again. The Lakehawks added two more runs to the board in the sixth for the 4-1 game three win.
Chisholm went 4-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Malayla Miller went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Bak recorded her second win of the series with 6.0 innings pitched. She allowed just one run on six hits with two strikeouts.
With three wins over SFSC, the Lakehawks improve to 12-11 on the season with a 7-2 record in conference play. Lake-Sumter remains second in conference standing after St. Johns River State College.
The Lakehawks will be back in Sun-Lakes Conference action against Pasco-Hernando State College on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in New Port Richey, Fla.
