LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball continues their Sun-Lakes Conference hot streak with a three-game sweep over Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC). The Lakehawks outscored the Bobcats 23-4 for the weekend.
Game 1 – Lake-Sumter 4, PHSC 2
Macie Bourgholtzer led off the top of the first with a basehit. After stealing second and third, a sacrifice fly from Emma Chisholm gave Lake-Sumter a 1-0 lead.
The Bobcats tied the score in the fourth with a pair of back-to-back doubles. Then three basehits in the fifth, gave Pasco-Hernando a 2-1 lead.
In extra innings, Bourgholtzer reached on a four pitch walk to lead off the inning. A single from Sammi Thomas put Bourgholtzer in scoring position for Chisholm to send a base hit to right field scoring two for the lead.
Pasco-Hernando went three up three down in the bottom of the eighth for the Lakehawks to secure the game one win.
Sophomore Amy Bak took the no-decision with 4.1 innings pitched 4.1. She allowed just two runs on six hits with one strikeout.
Savannah Ellis recorded the win in extra innings improving to 6-4 on the season. She held the Bobcats to no runs on two hits with three strikeouts.
Game 2 – Lake-Sumter 11, PHSC 1 (5 Innings)
The Lakehawks took a 6-0 lead early in game two's mercy rule victory.
A two-run homerun from Shannen Luksha in the bottom of the third extended the Lakehawk lead over the Bobcats 8-1. With two on in the fourth, a single from Sammi Thomas scored three to put Lake-Sumter in mercy rule territory.
Valeria Rolon and Thomas each went 3-for-3. Rolon added one run and three RBIs.
Kaitlyn Duquette recorded the complete-game win for game two. She allowed just one run on two hits with five strikeouts.
Game 3 – Lake-Sumter 8, PHSC 1
Thomas led off the bottom of the first in game three with a double to start a rally for a Lakehawk lead. Basehits from Chisholm, Emma Christensen, and Ellis put the Lakehawks up 3-0.
The Lakehawks extended their lead 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Bobcats attempted to capitalize on a Lakehawk mistake in the sixth but could only manufacture one run.
Lake-Sumter took game three 8-1 to secure the series sweep over Pasco-Hernando.
Nicol Werking and Thomas each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Bak and Ellis teamed up on the mound again on Saturday afternoon. Bak recorded the win with 5.0 innings pitched, shutting out the Bobcats with four strikeouts.
Ellis recorded the save with 2.0 innings pitched.
The Lakehawks improved to 23-11 on the season while extending their historic win streak to 14. Lake-Sumter maintains their spot in conference standing at second with a 10-2 record.
The Lakehawks will be back in Sun-Lakes Conference action next weekend against Florida Gateway on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
