Ellis Named Region 8 Softball Player of the Week
Ellis earns this honor for the first time in her career at Lake-Sumter
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Softball) – Sophomore Savannah Ellis was named the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) / Region 8 Division II Softball Player of the Week for her performance in the week of Feb. 24 - Mar. 2. Ellis earns this honor for the first time in her career at Lake-Sumter.
Ellis pitched game two of the weekend series with No. 3 St. Johns River State College (SJRSC). She recorded the complete-game win and shutout against one of the top offenses in the country.
SJRSC scores an average of seven runs and one homerun per game; Ellis dealt the Vikings their first shutout loss of the season and held the team to just four hits.
Head coach Jay Miller shared his thoughts on Ellis' achievement, "Savannah is the epitome of a two-way player."
"She gets it done in every aspect of the game and is now coming off back-to-back complete-game shutouts. It is a testament to her dedication and work ethic," said Coach Miller.
For the season, Ellis maintains a 2-3 record on the mound with 27.0 innings pitched. She has an ERA of 2.59, which currently ranks second in conference.
