Lakehawk Softball Sweeps Double Header with HCC

LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball added a pair of Ws to the win column on Tuesday after their double header against Hillsborough Community College (HCC).

Game 1 – HCC 0, LSSC 5

The Lakehawks found their first win of the season over the Hawks in game one.

Emma Chisholm, Savannah Ellis, Valeria Rolon, Maya Hegedus, and Malayla Miller all recorded two hits in the win.

Sophomore Amy Bak recorded the complete game shutout on the mound to improve to 1-0 on the season. She allowed just three hits while striking out six.  

Game 2 –HCC 1, LSSC 14 (5 innings)

Lake-Sumter took game two by run rule in five innings. After a 1-1 tie going into the bottom of the third inning, the Lakehawk offense exploded scoring eight runs for a 9-1 lead.

After adding five more to the board in the bottom of the fourth, the Hawks could not find a way to come back from the deficit.

Chisholm went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored, including blasting her first homerun of the season. Nicol Werking also went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Freshman Kendall Rumer tossed a complete game to record her first collegiate win on the mound. In five innings pitched, she allowed just one run on five hits.

With a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon, the Lakehawks improve to a 2-1 record on the season.

Lakehawk softball will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 31 at Seminole State at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
