Thomas Named Region 8 Softball Player of the Week
Thomas earns this honor for the first time in her career at Lake-Sumter
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Softball) – Redshirt Sophomore Kaleigh Thomas was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 Division II Softball Player of the Week for her performance in the week of Apr. 1-7. Thomas earns this honor for the first time in her career at Lake-Sumter
In five games last week, Thomas batted .769 (10-for-13) with four runs scored, two homeruns, and five RBIs. She recorded hits in all five games.
Early in the week against, non-conference opponent, Trinity Baptist College, she went 1-for-1 with an RBI in game one and 4-for-4 with two homeruns in game two of the double header.
In the Lakehawks' three games against Florida Gateway College, Thomas went 5-for-8 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the series.
Head Coach Jay Miller expressed his excitement for Thomas' accomplishment, "Kaleigh had a season-ending injury in 2022. We watched her push through rehab; we saw the good days and we saw the dark days that accompany a medical redshirt year.
"To see her make it all the way back and have a week like she did last week, is simply remarkable," said Coach Miller.
For the season, Thomas maintains a .333 batting average, .380 on-base percentage, and a .455 slugging percentage. She has 33 hits with 6 doubles and 2 homeruns.
Additionally, she has 13 RBIs, 13 runs scored, 10 stolen bases, and seven walks.
Up next for the Lakehawks
Thomas and the Lakehawks will continue Sun-Lakes Conference play against St. Johns River State College on Friday and Saturday.
