Lakehawk Softball Offense Explodes Against Trinity Baptist

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball traveled to Jacksonville, Fla. on Monday afternoon for a double header against Trinity Baptist College. The Lakehawks won both games, 12-0 and 9-3.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 12, Trinity Baptist 0 (5 innings)

The Lakehawks hit the gas pedal in the top of the first inning and never let up. Savannah Ellis and Emma Chisholm hit back-to-back homeruns giving Lake-Sumter a 2-0 lead right away.

In the second, Elizabeth Auciello stepped up to the plate with a line drive up the middle to score Alex Baez from third base.

The Lakehawks entered mercy rule territory with a seven-run rally in the top of the fourth.

Baez led off the inning with a walk, followed by Emily Gable drawing a hit by pitch. Then, a single to left from Kaleigh Thomas scored Baez.

Payton Parkes reached with a hit by pitch to load the bases. Ellis stepped up with a single down the left field line to score Gable and Kiki Smith, pinch running for Thomas.

Singles from Alexis Adams and Megan Wright gave the Lakehawks a 10-0 lead after the fourth inning.

Jordyn Anderson contributed two more runs in the top of the fifth inning with a double to center field to score Parkes and Chisholm.  

Ellis went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Chisholm went 3-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, and three runs scored.

Sophomore leftie Auciello tossed a complete-game shutout improving to 3-2 on the year. She allowed just three hits and one walk for the win.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 9, Trinity Baptist 3

The Lakehawks took an early lead in the top of the first after Ellis reached the bases with a walk. Then, back-to-back single from Thomas and Anderson gave Ellis an easy trip home to take the lead 1-0.

In the second, Baez and Gable reached on a pair of bunts and both scored on an error by the Eagle infield extending the Lakehawk lead 3-0.

Trinity Baptist scored in the bottom of the second on a solo homerun before Thomas responded her first homerun on of the season.

The Lakehawks added two more runs in the top of the fifth after a pair of back-to-back doubles from Thomas and Anderson.

The Eagles attempted a short comeback in the bottom of the sixth, but were cut short at two runs.

In the seventh, the Lakehawks added three more runs starting with Thomas' second homerun of the game.

Then, Anderson reached first with a single before Parkes sent a triple down the left field line. Wright followed with a single to score Parkes.

With a 9-3 lead, the Lakehawks secured their second win of the day after the Eagles could not score in the bottom of the seventh to keep the game alive.

Thomas led the team offensively in game two going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Anderson contributed several hits as well going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Ellis recorded the win on the mound with 4.0 innings pitched improving to 9-3 for the season. She allowed just one runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Amy Bak, Kayley Williams, and Kaitlyn Duquette threw one inning each to close out the game two win.

Bak and Duquette each tossed scoreless and hitless innings. Williams allowed two runs on one hit in the sixth.  

With two wins on the day, the Lakehawks improved to a 24-20 record.

Up next for the Lakehawks

Lakehawk Softball will continue Sun-Lakes Conference play against Florida Gateway College this weekend.

Friday's double header will be at The Hawks Nest at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Livestream video will be available to those who cannot attend.

The series conclusion will be in Lake City, Fla. at Florida Gateway at 1:00 p.m.
