Lakehawk Softball Offense Secures a Pair of Mercy Rule Victories over Lincoln Land

LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball hosted Lincoln Land Community College for a double header on Monday afternoon. The Lakehawks defeated the Loggers by mercy rule in both games, 9-1 and 12-3.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 9, Lincoln Land 1

The Lakehawks took the lead in the bottom of the second with a two-run homerun over the scoreboard in left field from Jordyn Anderson, her first of the season. Payton Parkes, up to bat next, kept the inning alive reaching with a single to left.

Macie Bourgholtzer came up next with a hard-hit ball that deflected off the left fielder's glove, resulting in a four-base error. Parkes and Bourgholtzer scored extending the Lakehawk lead 4-0 after two innings.

Kaleigh Thomas led off the bottom of the fourth with a single. Back-to-back hits from Alex Baez and Bourgholtzer scored two more runs for a 6-0 lead.

The Loggers added one run to the board in the top of the fifth, but were held there.

In the bottom half of the fifth inning, Megan Wright and Emma Chisholm led off with a pair of doubles.

Wright scored from third on a wild pitch with Thomas up to bat. Then, Thomas scored Chisholm with a single up the middle.

Baez stepped up next, walking off the game with a single up the middle to secure the 9-1 mercy rule win over the Loggers.

Wright, Chisholm, Thomas, Baez, and Savannah each recorded two hits. Anderson and Baez had two RBIs each.

Anderson recorded the complete-game win on the mound, her first of the season. With 5.0 innings pitched, she allowed just one run on four hits and two walks.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 12, Lincoln Land 3

Lincoln Land starting off game two by taking a 3-0 lead, but were held to zeros for the remainder of the game.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Wright blasted a double off the left field fence scoring Ellis and Alexis Adams. Parkes followed with a hit up the middle to score Wright, tying the score at 3-3.

Then, a pair of walks from Baez and Amy Bak added a free run to the board and a 4-3 lead for the Lakehawks.

The Lakehawks had another big rally in the bottom of the second scoring five runs, extending their lead 8-3.

With Ellis and Chisholm on base, Wright hit one up the middle to score Ellis from second. Parkes came up big next with a three-run homerun, her fifth of the season.

Bourgholtzer led off the bottom of the third with a walk and scored from first on a base hit from Ellis.

A triple from Adams added another run to the board for the Lakehawks. Wright followed with a single, allowing Adams to score easily.

Sara White stepped up with a pinch-hit single to score Wright from second, putting the Lakehawks in mercy rule territory with an eight-run lead.

The Lake-Sumter pitching and defense held the Loggers to no runs for their second mercy rule victory of the day.

Bak recorded the complete-game win on the mound to improve to 2-3 for the season. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits and two walks with a season-high five strikeouts.

Wright and Parkes recorded three hits and four RBIs each. Adams and Ellis had two hits and one RBI each.

With two wins on the day, the Lakehawks improved to 17-16 overall record on the year.

Up next for the Lakehawks

Lakehawk Softball will continue Sun-Lakes Conference play against Pasco-Hernando on Friday and Saturday. Game one will be at The Hawks Nest on Friday at 1:00 p.m. followed by the double header in New Port Richey, Fla. on Saturday at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
