Lakehawk Softball Offense Explodes Against East Georgia

LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball hosted East Georgia State College (EGSC) for a double header on Tuesday afternoon. The Lakehawks defeated the Bobcats 7-4 and 9-1.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 7, EGSC 4

The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Jaylin Hall hit a solo homerun on the first pitch of the game.

In the bottom of the first, with two on, Alexis Adams took the game back with one swing giving the Lakehawks a 3-1 lead.

Lake-Sumter added another run in the third after a leadoff triple from Adams. Megan Wright came next with a sac fly to score Adams easily from third.

Macie Bourgholtzer reached in the fourth inning on a walk. Savannah Ellis blasted a double up the middle to score Bourgholtzer from first extending the Lakehawk lead 5-1.

The Bobcats put two more runs on the board in the top of the fifth after Jada Akeson hit a two-run homerun. EGSC added one more run in the sixth with a walk and two basehits.

Adams gave the Lakehawks two more runs in the bottom of the sixth with a double, scoring Emma Chisholm and Ellis extending the lead 7-4.

Adams led the team going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Ellis went 4-for-4 with one RBI.

Ellis recorded the win on the mound with five innings pitched, improving to 6-0 on the season. She allowed three runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

Kaitlyn Duquette entered the game in relief, tossing the final two innings, posting her first save of the season. She recorded four strikeouts.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 9, EGSC 1 (6 innings)

The Lakehawks carried their momentum from game one into game two putting up five runs in the bottom of the first.

Bourgholtzer led off the inning with a walk, then advanced to second on a basehit from Adams. A single to the left side of the field from Wright scored Bourgholtzer from second base.

Chisholm came up next with a pop fly that the Bobcat leftfielder could not handle, scoring Wright and Adams. Chilsholm advanced all the way to third on the error.

Alex Baez stepped up with her second homerun of the season, extending the Lakehawk lead 5-0.

Payton Parkes led off the bottom of the third with a walk. With two outs, Amy Bak hit a single to center field scoring Parkes from first.

East Georgia scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, Adams blasted a two-run homerun, her second of the day, extending the Lakehawks' lead 8-1.

In the sixth, the Lakehawks ended the game early by mercy rule after Parkes hit a sacrifice fly to score Ellis from third base.

Adams carried her offensive performance into game two going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Emily Gable and Wright recorded two hits each.

Kayley Williams posted the complete-game win, her first of the season. Williams held the Bobcats to just one run on nine hits with one walk and one strikeout.

 With two wins over the Bobcats, the Lakehawks improved to a 10-13 overall record on the season.

Lakehawk Softball will continue Sun-Lakes Conference play at Florida Gateway College on Friday, March. 1 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
