Lakehawk Softball Drops Two to Eastern Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Softball) –  Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball traveled to Eastern Florida State College (EFSC) Thursday evening for a non-conference double header. The Lakehawks fell to the Titans in both games, 4-6 and 6-14.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 4, EFSC 6

Game one was a back-and-forth battle to the last inning with Eastern Florida ultimately taking the game one win.

The Titans took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Lakehawks tied up the score in the top of the second.

The Lakehawks took the lead in the top of the third after a lead off single from Emma Chisholm. Savannah Ellis reached on a hit-by-pitch and Alexis Adams loaded the bases with a single to the left side.

Kaleigh Thomas scored Chisholm from third with a hard-hit ball to the Titans' short stop.

The Lakehawk lead did not stick long with Eastern Florida taking a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Lake-Sumter answered back in the fifth with two runs.

Adams and Thomas led off the inning with a pair of singles. Payton Parkes stepped up next with a double to score Kiki Smith and Emily Gable pinching running for Adams and Thomas.

Eastern Florida solidified the win in the bottom of the fifth after Livie Davis blasted a triple to the right side of the field to score two, bringing their lead to 6-4.

Chisholm, Adams, and Thomas each went 2-for-4. Thomas and Parkes contributed one RBI each.

Sophomore Kayley Williams recorded the loss moving to 0-2 on the season. Williams allowed six runs, one unearned on four hits and five walks.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 6, EFSC 14

Lake-Sumter and Eastern Florida had another back-and-forth battle in game two before the Titan offense took a lead the Lakehawks could not overcome.

Chisholm led off the game with a double. Ellis came up next with a single to right field to score Chisholm, giving the Lakehawks the first run of the game.

The Titans answered back in the bottom of the first taking a 2-1 lead. EFSC then added six more runs in the second inning giving them a seven-run lead over Lake-Sumter.

In the top of the fourth, Ellis and Thomas led the inning off with a pair of singles to start a Lakehawk rally.

Parkes and Wright followed with back-to-back singles to score two runs.

Baez came up next with a bunt for a basehit to load the bases. Elizabeth Auciello drew a walk giving Parkes an easy opportunity to score.

Macie Bourgholtzer scored Wright and Baez with an infield single to end the fourth still trailing the Titans 6-8.

After a big offensive inning for the Lakehawks, Eastern Florida secured their lead scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth. The Titans defeated Lake-Sumter in game two by mercy rule 14-6.

Baez and Ellis each went 2-for-3 in game two. Bourgoltzer went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Amy Bak recorded the loss on the mound with 1.2 innings pitched. She allowed eight runs on seven hits.

Auciello came in relief, pitching 3.2 innings. She allowed five runs on seven hits with one walk.

With two losses to Eastern Florida, the Lakehawks moved to a 6-10 overall record for the season.

Lakehawk Softball will travel to Sanford, Fla. for a double header at Seminole State College at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
