No. 18 Softball Splits Double Header with South Florida State

LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball team split a double header with South Florida State College over the weekend, recording their first conference loss of the season. South Florida State took game one and the Lakehawks came back in game two with a mercy rule win.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 11, South Florida State 16

Lake-Sumter took a small lead in the bottom of the first inning but the Panther offense was a force Lake-Sumter could not overcome.

South Florida State scored five in the top of the second after a grand slam by Brielle Rosa. The Panthers put four more up in the top of the fourth extending their lead to 9-2.

The Lakehawks still had some fight left, putting up three in the sixth and six in the bottom of the seventh but a seven run seventh inning from the Panthers sealed the 16-11 win.

Ali Shenefield recorded her first loss on the season with 3.1 innings pitched moving to 13-1. Shenfield allowed eight runs on eight hits.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 10, South Florida State 2

Lake-Sumter came back for revenge in game two. After allowing two in the first inning, Darian Pippin shut down the Panther offense for the remainder of the game.

In the bottom of the first, the Lakehawks took the lead scoring three runs behind Raquel Camgulia's two-run homerun. Then, with a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth, Makenzi Heaton entered the game to pinch hit and blasted a two-run homerun.

Molly Bender, Reese Snipes, and Camuglia each had two hits in game two. Snipes and Camuglia also recorded three RBIs each.

Pippin recorded the complete-game win with six innings pitched. She allowed just two runs on five hits with two strikeouts improving her record to 11-5 on the season.

The Lakehawks improved to 31-13 on the season, 5-1 in conference play. South Florida State moved to 14-26 on the season, 4-2 in conference play.
