No. 17 Lakehawk Softball Splits with Spoon River College and Wisconsin Lutheran College

CLERMONT, Fla. (Softball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball team traveled to PFX softball complex in Clermont, Fla. for The Spring Games on Thursday afternoon. The Lakehawks lost game one to Spoon River College 13-5 and took game two from Wisconsin Lutheran College JV 12-1.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 5, Spoon River College 13

After scoring two in the bottom of the first, the Lakehawks lost control of the lead in the second trailing Spoon River 8-2. The Snappers added three in the third extending their lead 11-2.

The Lakehawks put one more up in the fourth and two in the fifth but ultimately was not enough to escape the mercy rule loss.

Lake-Sumter had nine hits in game one. Molly Bender and Kreighton Steinke each had two with one RBI.

Darian Pippin recorded the loss moving to 8-5 on the season.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 12, Wisconsin Lutheran College JV 1

Behind 14 hits, the Lakehawks defeated the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors 12-1.

Lake-Sumter took a 5-0 lead from the top of the first and maintained it for the remainder of the game. The Lakehawks added one in the fourth, two in the sixth, and four more in the top of the seventh.

The Warriors scored one in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homerun to break the shutout, but the short rally ended there.

Tatum McGrath and JJ Lott both had three hits. Alex Baez, Reese Snipes, and Mia Lovett each had two.

Snipes and Lovett recorded three RBIs each. Steinke had two.

Freshman leftie Elizabeth Auciello recorded the complete-game win allowing just one run on four hits with six strikeouts. Auciello improved to 3-1 on the season with her game two win.

Up next for the Lakehawks

The Lakehawks will host Morton College on Sunday, March 19 at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. Live stream video will be available to those who cannot attend.
