Lakehawk Softball Sweeps Jackson College
Freshman Elizabeth Auciello posted her first collegiate win on the mound
LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Behind 15 runs on 18 hits, the Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball team picked up a double header sweep over Jackson College down the road at Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex hosted by The Spring Games. The Lakehawks took game one 8-5 and game two 7-5.
Game One – Lake-Sumter 8, Jackson College 5
The Lakehawks got off to a hot start from the top of the first inning, scoring four runs. Jackson College responded in the bottom half of the first but came to a halt at one.
After two scoreless innings from both sides, the Lakehawks added one more in the fourth bringing their lead up to 5-1. The Jets tried to rally again adding two more in the fifth but still trailed 3-5.
The Lakehawks secured their lead in the sixth putting up three more runs. Makenzi Heaton and Alex Baez both drew walks.
With two outs, Desiree Romeo stepped up with a three-run in-the-park homerun. Jackson College put up to more in the bottom of the sixth but Romeo's big hit put the Jets out of reach.
Romeo led the Lakehawks in game one going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Alexis Adams also added a pair of RBIs with one hit.
Starting pitcher Mia Lovett recorded her first win of the season with five innings pitched. Lovett allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while fanning two.
With two innings pitched, Pippin entered the game in relief for Lovett earning her first save of the season for game one.
Game Two – Lake-Sumter 7, Jackson College 5
Game two was a thriller from the first inning. Jackson College carried a 5-0 lead into the fourth inning before the Lakehawks put up a huge come-from-behind effort in the bottom of the fourth scoring sixth runs to take control of the game for the first time.
The Lakehawk rally in the fourth inning began with a leadoff solo blast by Raquel Camuglia, her second homerun this week.
Kreighton Steinke kept it going with a single. Emily Gable entered the game to run for Steinke, stealing second and advancing to third on an error and then scoring on a base hit by Heaton.
Adams followed with a base hit and Alex Baez came next drawing a walk to load the bases. Romeo and Molly Bender came up with back-to-back singles scoring two runs.
With the Lakehawks still trailing by one, Reese Snipes doubled to left field scoring Romeo and Bender taking the lead 6-5.
Camgulia led off the bottom of the fifth with an opposite field triple. Then, Heaton singled to left to add one more run to the board.
Heaton, Steinke, Snipes and Bender each had multiple hits in game two. Snipes and Heaton recorded two RBIs each.
Freshman pitcher Elizabeth Auciello was the winning pitcher on the mound for the Lakehawks recording her first collegiate win. With three innings pitched, Auciello allowed just one run on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Ali Shenefield entered the game to pitch the final three innings earning the save while fanning four Jet batters.
The Lakehawks improve to 15-9 while the Jackson College Jets still in search of their first win for the 2023 season fell to 0-6.
