Four Lakehawks Named All-Conference

Region 8 Release

Leesburg, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College softball team ended their season with 26 wins, making it only the seventh time the team has reached that mark in program history and on Monday, their top performers were recognized.

LSSC had four players selected to the Mid-Florida All-Conference Second Team. Raquel Camuglia, Jeritza Montero, Morgan Herndon and Darian Pippin earned All Mid-Florida recognition for their on-field contributions this season.

Raquel "Rocky" Camuglia led all Mid-Florida Conference catchers in hitting with a .341 batting average. She also led the position in doubles (13) and extra base hits (16). The standout freshman catcher appeared in 45 games this season and carried a .393 on-base percentage. Camuglia collected 27 RBIs mainly hitting second in the lineup and tallied three home runs during her rookie campaign.

Jeritza Montero had an excellent redshirt sophomore season finishing tied for the state lead in doubles with 20. The second baseman finished her career with the most doubles in program history (36) and the third most hits (109). Montero hit .333  in 2022 while collecting 60 hits in 54 games and leading her team in RBIs (43). The Pompano Beach High School graduate also fielded at a .971 clip and helped turn nine double plays this season.

Morgan Herndon appeared in 43 games as a sophomore and hit .347 with two doubles, one triple and one home run. The right fielder was selected to the "At-Large" position because of her high batting average, defensive skills and going 17 for 18 in stolen bases. Herndon finishes her softball career at Lake-Sumter having only been thrown out one time during a stolen base attempt. She was 32 for 33, a career success rate of 97%.

Darian Pippin was the final Lakehawk selected to the All-Conference team and although she did have one home run this season, she was added as a pitcher. The Mount Dora Christian Academy graduate went 8-5 with two saves from the circle in 2022. She posted a 2.80 ERA on the season, the fifth lowest in program history. Pippin struck out 49 batters and fielded .971.

Lake-Sumter softball will be making the move to NJCAA Division II for the 2023 season and will join a conference alongside St. John's River State College, Florida State College – Jacksonville, South Florida State College and Pasco-Hernando State College.
