Softball Gets Back on Track with Win

Leesburg, Fla. – On Tuesday, the Lake-Sumter State College softball team ended a recent skid with a win over Hillsborough Community College.

It was a six-game streak of things not going right or falling into place for the Lakehawks that came to an end against the Hawks.

After going up in the first inning, 1-0, HCC put up five runs in the second to take the lead. Darian Pippin hit her first career home run in the bottom half of the inning to bring her team within three. It was the final run the Lakehawks would score as they fell, 11-2.

Alyssa Opsahl led the offense with a 3 for 4 game, driving in one. Raquel Camuglia and Tatum McGrath added two hits each in a losing effort. Mia Lovett took the loss in the circle, moving her record to 2-2.

Game two emphasized all three phases of softball. The offense collected eight runs on nine hits while the defense was flawless and Amber Griffin tossed a complete game shutout in the 8-0 victory.

Camuglia had herself a game going 3 for 3 with three RBI's on two doubles and a walk-off home run to end the game in the sixth inning. Jeritza Montero, Pippin and Opsahl all added RBI's in the win. Griffin collected her third complete game victory of the season, allowing just three runners to reach base in six innings.

Lake-Sumter (13-9) will head to NTC to take on South Florida State College on Thursday. Game times are set for 5 and 7 pm.
