Smith's Power Helps Lakehawks to Solid Start

Leesburg, Fla. – After a quick 4-0 start out of the gate, the Lake-Sumter State College softball team sits at 7-3 going into week three of the season.

Coming off of a split with State College of Florida – Manatee, the Lakehawks are averaging just under six runs per game while the team is hitting .320 and slugging .436. Lake-Sumter currently ranks 10th in the nation in hits (93) and sixth in the country in stolen bases (24).

Known for her pitching prowess, Alyssa Dragovich has been going to work lately in the batter's box, boasting a .417 average with four RBI's in 12 at-bats. Raquel Camuglia carries .400 batting average after going 4 for 4 against SCF in game two of their double-header. The Springstead High School graduate has totaled 14 hits, including three doubles and a home run in 10 games. Jeritza Montero has been raking in the RBI's with a team high nine in nine starts. She has also collected four doubles in the process. Kierston Smith has made an impact early this season with three home runs under her belt with a .621 slugging percentage.

Jordyn Anderson has answered the call in the circle to the tune of a 3-0 record to start the season. Darian Pippin is coming off of a complete game victory and is 2-0 with one save and a 2.33 ERA. Amber Griffin also has a complete game win under her belt, coming back on opening day. Mia Lovett leads the team with a 1.91 ERA to go along with a 1-0 record and two saves.

Rain has postponed the Lakehawks Tuesday game with South Florida State College and it will be rescheduled for a later date. LSSC will hit the road and take on Polk State College (2-2) Friday before returning home against Florida State College – Jacksonville on Saturday.
