Softball Looks to Continue Success in Conference

Leesburg, Fla. – Thursday marked the final tune-up before the Lake-Sumter State College softball teams opens conference play Saturday against No. 1 in the latest NJCAA national poll, Central Florida.

Back-to-back wins Thursday over William Penn gave the Lakehawks their 19th and 20th wins on the season for an overall record of 20-8. In their last 16 games, LSSC is 13-3 with two shutouts. The schedule takes a turn this weekend to Mid-Florida Conference matchups until the team hosts Pasco-Hernando State College, April 15.

Morgan Johnson currently leads the team with 36 hits on the season while hitting .456 on the season. Right on her heals is Alyssa Opsahl with 33 hits, including seven doubles, two triples and a home run. Opsahl, along with teammate Mackenzie Trgo lead the team with 19 RBI's each.

Alyssa Dragovich is coming off a week where she recorded two wins and is currently 7-3 on the season with a 2.33 ERA. Cissy Doolittle is second on the team in appearances and carries 5-0 record with a 2.72 ERA. Amber Griffin has been steady in the circle as of late. In the Georgia native's last three starts, she carries a 1-1 record with an ERA of 0.85.

Lake-Sumter will travel to Ocala for the conference opener against Central Florida (21-3), Saturday. The team will return home to host Daytona State Thursday.
