Lakehawks Split Weekend DH with Titans

Lakehawks Split Weekend DH with Titans

Leesburg, Fla. – Through their first 18 games, the Lake-Sumter State College softball team carries an 11-7 record.

Still a couple weeks away from Mid-Florida Conference play, the Lakehawks went to St. Petersburg and split a double header with the No. 6 team in the most recent state poll, St. Petersburg State College.

Game one was a low scoring affair with LSSC grabbing the 3-1 victory. RBI's by Emily Kolwicz, Jeritza Montero and Alyssa Opsahl were all the team needed behind their pitcher, Amber Griffin. Griffin tossed a complete game on just 75 pitches, giving up five hits and allowing just one run. In her last three appearances, the freshman has tossed 15.1 innings, giving up two earned runs for an ERA below one (0.91).

Game two saw the Titans score six runs in the first three innings to go up 6-0. The Lakehawks battled back and were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh before the comeback was cut short, 6-4.

Montero and Opsahl led the way with a two-hit performance each. Katie Johnson added a double in the middle innings as well.

The "Law Firm of Morgan & Morgan" is making some noise in the Lake-Sumter outfield. Morgan Johnson currently leads the team with 27 hits on the year and is hitting .500 on the dot. Morgan Herndon has made a name for herself collecting 10 hits in her last six starts and is hitting .526 on the season.

Cissy Doolittle has gotten off to a great start in the circle going 4-0 with a 2.20 ERA. Alyssa Dragovich and Griffin have combined for five wins and 21 strikeouts on the season.

Lake-Sumter will be back at home Friday, March 5, to take on St. Pete in the final two games of their season series. Game one will begin at 1 pm.
