Softball Heading Down Home Stretch

Leesburg, Fla. – With a 20-24 overall record, the Lake-Sumter State College softball team is down to their final 12 games of the 2019 season.

The Lakehawks headed into the start of conference play riding a nine game winning streak that came to an abrupt end against Daytona State. Since Mid-Florida Conference play began March 9, Lake-Sumter's record is 3-9 and the team currently sits tied for fifth place. The top four teams in the conference will head to postseason play.

"The good news is, we have 12 games left and can really shake things up," said Head Coach, Jay Miller. "There is still enough time for us to put it together and I believe that we will. Time is running short, but the clock isn't at zero just yet." The second round of the conference schedule will begin on the road for the Lakehawks who will take on Daytona State Thursday. Game one will start at 4 pm and will be live streamed via the Daytona State Athletics website.

Allie Geier and Abbey Primavera have been stellar in the circle this year for the Lakehawks having combined for 15 wins so far in 2019. Geier owns a 1.96 earned run average with a microscopic 1.13 WHIP while holding opponents to a .205 batting average. Primavera carries a 2.82 ERA with eight wins under her belt. The pitching staff as a whole has been great with a staff ERA at 3.09. Good enough for 10th in Region 8.

A pair of freshman in Jennifer Bryant and Casey Allen are currently leading the offense in several categories. Bryant's 41 hits, 28 runs scored and .342 batting average are all tops on the team in those areas. Allen has three home runs on the year while hitting .328 in 40 games. Sophomores Nini Underwood and Ashlyn Allen have been coming on strong lately hitting .285 and .270 respectfully.

After Thursday's contest, the Lakehawks will be back home on Saturday to host Seminole State with a 1 pm start time.
