Leesburg, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College softball program went 2-4 on the week in Mid-Florida Conference play and are almost to the halfway point of their conference schedule.

St. Johns visited the Hawks Nest to begin the week Tuesday. Game one saw the Vikings go up early, plating one run in the second and another in the fourth. LSSC tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth when Aura Blackburn drove a hit into centerfield scoring Lauryn Markis and Allie Geier.

SJRSC took the lead back in the sixth and the Lakehawks could not bring in another run, falling 4-2.

Lake-Sumter jumped out in front early in game two. Brooke Ferguson reached on a base hit, which was followed by a gap shot from Rachel Phelps to plate the Lakehawk second baseman. Phelps would later come around on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Jenna Curtis to go up 2-0 in the first.

The scoring kept coming for LSSC in the second when Danielle Arceneaux scored on a single by Ferguson. The offense went silent for both teams over the next couple of innings before the Vikings broke through in the top of the fourth.

St. Johns brought around one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at 3-3. Taylor Turner led off the bottom half of the inning reaching on an error and advancing to second. Ferguson moved Turner to third on a sac bunt. Phelps then accounted for the team's fifth walk-off win of the season with a sac fly to center, scoring Turner from third for the 4-3 victory.

In the game, Ferguson broke her own single-season stolen base record with 28 on the year.

Next up on the schedule was Daytona State. The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and never gave it up. In the fourth inning, DSC moved ahead 5-0. Lake-Sumter attempted a comeback, but fell short 5-3.

Phelps added two more hits and an RBI in the loss.

The second half of the double header started out much of the same with Daytona putting up three runs in the first. Taylor Dotson got her team on the board in the bottom of the third with a triple to right field plating Turner and Phelps.

In the fourth, DSC added an insurance run to take a 4-2 lead. Turner got her team one run closer in the bottom of the same inning driving in Curtis on a single through the left side. Dotson led off the fifth with a first pitch solo home run bringing the game to 4-4. Nini Underwood would come around to score on a Falcon Miscue to give her team the lead.

The Lakehawks added two more runs in the sixth with RBIs from Phelps and Underwood. Jasmine McQuaig came into the ballgame to relieve Abbey Primavera and shut down the Daytona offense for the 7-4 win.

Seminole State played host to LSSC on Saturday. The No.11 team in the nation flexed its muscles against Lake-Sumter winning game one, 8-0 in five innings.

Phelps drove in Ferguson in the top of the first inning of game two to give her team an early lead with a double. The Raiders drove in two runs in the second, but the Lakehawks brought the game to a 2-2 tie in the second inning when Hailey Dobbs scored from second base on an error.

SSC played long ball hitting two home runs and jumped out in front, 7-2. Mackenzie Reeves had a pinch hit RBI single in the top of the sixth to drive in the final run of the game. The Lakehawks dropped game two, 7-3.

LSSC is now 25-18 on the season and 4-4 in conference play. This week, Lake-Sumter received four votes in the regional poll, their most this season. After a rainout on Tuesday, the Lakehawks will take on Santa Fe College on the road Thursday in double header action. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
