Dumas Named Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Baseball) – Lakehawk baseball's Matthew Dumas was named the Florida College System Athletic Association (FSCAA) / Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week for his performance in the week of Mar. 24-30. Dumas earns the honor for the first time in his career at Lake-Sumter.
The Lakehawks continued Sun-Lakes Conference play over the weekend against Florida State College of Jacksonville. In the three-game series, Dumas hit .875, going 7-for-8, with five runs scored, three doubles, one triple, eight RBIs, and one stolen base.
For the series, he recorded at least one hit and drove in two runs in each game.
In a close game two of the series, Dumas played a pivotal role in the Lakehawks success going 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. In game three, he scored three runs with three RBIs to help secure the series win.
"We are so happy for Matthew. He has faced a lot of adversity in the way of injuries this year and he has finally been able to get healthy and stay health; it has given us a chance to see the impact he can have in our lineup," said Head Coach Rich Billings.
For the season, Dumas has appeared in 27 games primarily playing center field for the Lakehawks. He maintains a .406 batting average, .504 on-base percentage, and a .552 slugging percentage.
Dumas has 39 hits with 27 RBIs, 17 walks, 32 runs scored and 21 stolen bases.
No. 21 Lake-Sumter Baseball will continue conference play this weekend with No. 1 Pasco-Hernando State College. Dumas and the Lakehawks host the Bobcats on Friday at 1:00 p.m. before traveling to New Port Richey, Fla. on Saturday for a double header at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.
