LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball continues their success in Sun-Lakes Conference play with a series sweep over Palm Beach State College (PBSC). The Lakehawk outscored the Panthers 26-14 in three games played.
Game 1 –Lake-Sumter 5, PBSC 4
A first inning offensive surge gave the Lakehawks a 4-0 lead right away. Lake-Sumter extended their lead by one in the third which held until Palm Beach added one in the top of the sixth.
Trailing 5-1, the Panthers' attempts to come from behind was halted at three runs in the top of the eighth for the Lakehawks to secure the 5-4 game one win.
Tad Brooks went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Ean Gimson record two walks and two RBIs.
Redshirt sophomore Max Windham recorded the win on the mound to improve to 4-2 on the season. In 6.0 innings pitched, he allowed just one run on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Elliot Sande recorded his third save of the year with 1.1 innings pitched.
Game 2 – Lake-Sumter 13, PBSC 5
The Lakehawks were able to capitalize on several Panther errors in the bottom of the second inning to take an 8-0 lead. Another four runs in the bottom of the sixth gave Lake-Sumter a lead that Palm Beach could not recover from.
Matthew Dumas, Andrew Merchant, Edwin Melendez, and Brady Byers each had two hits.
Christian Cantwell, Brooks, Dumas, and Merchant recorded two or more RBIs.
Freshman Jack Johnson improved to 5-3 on the mound with 6.0 innings pitched. He allowed five runs on nine hits with zero walks while fanning five.
Riley Fitzgerald took the mound in the top of the seventh to close out game one of Saturday's double header. With a pair of strikeouts, the Lakehawks got out with a 13-5 win.
Game 3 – Lake-Sumter 8, PBSC 5
The Lakehawks snagged a win in game three to take the series with just three hits on eight runs.
Eli Thumond went 1-for-3 with one run scored and a pair of RBIs. Melendez went 1-for-2 with three walks, one RBI, and one run scored.
Freshman Fabian Romero improves to 5-1 on the mound with the game three win. In 6.0 innings pitched, he allowed just three runs on three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
Elliot Sande recorded his fourth save of the season and second of the series with 1.2 innings pitched. He held the Panthers to no runs on one hit with four strikeouts.
Lake-Sumter moves to a 21-13 overall record and an 8-7 record in conference. With three wins, the Lakehawks broke the three-way tie for third place in conference standing while the Panthers drop to fifth at 5-10 in conference play.
