LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball recorded two wins over Tallahassee State College (TSCS) over the weekend. In Friday's game, the Lakehawks' early rally gave the team a 10-0 mercy rule win and Saturday's 6-4 win was a come-from-behind victory.
Game 1 – LSSC 10, TSC 0 (7 innings)
The Lakehawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before a massive rally in the second inning gave the team an 8-0 lead.
A pair of base hits in the top of the sixth from Edwin Melendez and Christian Cantwell secured the 10-run lead giving the Lakehawks the mercy rule win.
Edwin Melendez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and one run scored. Ean Gimson and Mason Blackburn each had one hit with two RBIs.
Starting pitcher Max Windham recorded his first win of the season the mound. He allowed just three hits and recorded five strikeouts in five shutout innings.
Game 2 – TSC 4, LSSC 6
The Falcons took the lead in the top of the first after a three-run homerun, but the Lakehawks chipped away one run at a time to take the lead back.
Matthew Dumas, Tad Brooks, and Brady Byers each recorded two hits. Brooks had a pair of RBIs in the win.
Jack Johnson improved to a 2-1 record on the mound with 6.0 innings pitched. After a three-run homerun in the top of the first, Johnson allowed just one more hit with five strikeouts.
Elliot Sande recorded the save after taking the mound in a tight situation in the top of the ninth. Sande fanned the final Falcon batter to end the game.
With a pair of wins over the Falcons, the Lakehawks improve to 7-4 on the season.
