Toro Named Region 8 Baseball Pitcher of Week for Second Consecutive Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Baseball) – Lakehawk baseball's Tyler Toro named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week for his performance in the week of Mar. 25-31. Toro earns this honor for the second consecutive week this season.
Last week, Toro continued to show his dominance on the mound against Sun-Lakes Conference opponent Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) last week.
With seven innings pitched, Toro allowed just four hits and one walk while holding the Blue Wave to none with a career-high 11 strikeouts.
Toro's performance in game one set the tone for the Lakehawks' three-game sweep over FSCJ.
Head Coach Rich Billings commented on Toro's performance, "Tyler has absolutely carried us the last three weeks on the mound.
"He had a really tough start to the season, so to see how far he has come is so encouraging. He is pitching with a ton of confidence and has been dominant in his last few outings.
"We rarely see a repeat pitcher of the week in the Sun-Lakes Conference because there are so many talented players, let alone consecutive weeks. So for him to earn this honor in back-to-back week shows just how good he has been," said Coach Billings.
For the season, Toro has a 2-3 record in nine appearances on the mound. In 32.1 innings pitched, he has 45 strikeouts at a 9.57 K/9.
At the conference level, Toro is fourth for K/9, fourth for strikeouts, seventh for ERA (4.04), and eighth for WHIP (1.46).
