No. 20 Lakehawk Baseball Late Rally Overtakes TNXL Academy

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – No. 20 Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball hosted the TNXL Academy on Tuesday afternoon for a single-nonconference matchup. The Lakehawks defeated the Ducks in a come-from-behind 8-6 win.

TNXL took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Lakehawks tied up the score in the bottom of the third with a solo homerun from Elvin Figueroa, his fifth of the season.

The Ducks took the lead again the very next inning scoring two runs in the fourth and one more in the seventh.

A late rally in the bottom of the seventh, put five runs on the board for the Lakehawks.

Jacob Delano, Figueroa, and Tad Brooks all drew walks to start off the inning. Delano then scored their first run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Eli Thurmond came up next with a single to the right side of the field to score Figueroa. Chris Palmi followed the rally with a three-run homerun to left center field to clear the bases.

The Lakehawks held their two-run lead over the Ducks to record their first win as a nationally ranked team.

Nathan Quinn recorded the win on the mound with 3.0 innings pitched. He allowed three runs on one hit with six strikeouts.

Cristian Montes recorded the save, his first of the season after entering the top of the ninth and recording the final three outs of the game.

Rodney Sesler and Bryan Burtoft also saw mound time against the Ducks.

Sesler got the start and pitched 4.0 innings, recording four strikeouts. Burtoft pitched a hitless and scoreless eighth inning with one strikeout.

With the win, the Lakehawks improve to a 21-16-1 overall record.
