Lakehawk Baseball Snags Non-Conference Win Over Jackson College
LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball hosted Jackson College on Monday afternoon. The Lakehawks defeated the Jets 8-4 in a come-from-behind victory.
After a four-run second inning from Jackson College, the Lakehawks held the Jets to none for the remainder of the game. Lake-Sumter had a quiet start before taking a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
With Tad Brooks and Chris Palmi on, Eli Thurmond cleared the bases with a triple up the middle. Luke Bentley came up next to score Thurmond with an infield single.
Ean Gimson reached on a bunt. On the next pitch, Gimson and Bentley advanced to third on a wild pitch.
With two on, Dylan Bigard was able to score Bentley from third on a ground ball pulling the third baseman off the line. Gimson now on third, Jacob Delano placed a sac bunt to score the Lakehawks' fifth run of the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Thurmond reached on a walk and advanced around the bases completely on an overthrow pickoff attempt by the pitcher to extend the Lakehawk lead 6-4.
Ryan Jenkins added another run to the board in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homerun over the leftfield fence, his second of the season.
The Lakehawks secured their lead in the eighth by pushing a run across on a bases loaded fielder's choice, defeating the Jackson College Jets 8-4.
Bentley went 3-for-3 with an RBI, one walk, and two runs scored. Thurmond and Delano recorded two RBIs each.
Nathan Quinn, Larson McMaster, and Gregory Bori all saw time on the mound for Lake-Sumter.
McMaster recorded his first win of the season on the mound. He threw six scoreless innings allowing just two runs and two walks with seven strikeouts.
With the win, the Lakehawks improve to an 11-12-1 overall record.

Lakehawk Baseball continues Sun-Lakes Conference play this weekend against St. Johns River State College (SJRSC). Game one is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Friday at SJRSC.
Saturday's doubleheader will be at The Hawks Nest at 12:00 and 3:30 p.m. Livestream video and stats will be available to those who cannot attend.
