Lakehawk Baseball Defeats Eastern Florida
MELBOURNE, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball traveled to Melbourne, Fla. on Thursday afternoon for a single non-conference matchup with Eastern Florida State College (EFSC). Behind nine hits and seven runs, the Lakehawks defeated the Titans 7-3.
After Eastern Florida took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Lakehawks responded in the top of the second with three runs.
With Tad Brooks and Eli Thurmond on base, Cam Willaimson placed a sac bunt and reached on an overthrow from the Titans' pitcher. Thurmond and Brooks were both able to score on the error.
Williamson scored their third run of the inning after a ground ball to short from Ryan Jenkins.
Lake-Sumter added another run in the top of the fourth after Jacob Delano singled down the left field line to score Williamson from second.
With a 4-1 lead over the Titans, the Lakehawks put three more runs on the board in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
With bases loaded, Edwin Melendez hit a groundball to score Jenkins from third. Lake-Sumter added two more runs after capitalizing on an infield error bringing their lead to 7-1.
The Titans added one run in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings but were only able to manufacture two, ultimately falling to Lake-Sumter 7-3.
Delano, Brooks, and Williamson had two hits each. Delano and Melendez recorded one RBI each.
Sophomore leftie Trey Clinton recorded his first win of the season on the mound with 6.0 innings pitched. He allowed just one run on five hits with three strikeouts.
The Lakehawks improve to a 5-9-1 overall record, the Titans move to 7-8-1.
