Lakehawk Baseball Concludes 2023 Season at Palm Beach State

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball team traveled to Lake Worth, Fla. for their final Sun-Lakes Conference series of the season against Palm Beach State College (PBSC). The Lakehawks dropped all three games to the Panthers over both days.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 1, Palm Beach State 11

The Lakehawks recorded three hits in game one of the double header on Friday afternoon. Kendal Spencer was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and one run scored.

Luke Bentley was 1-for-2 and Chris Palmi also went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Nathan Quinn recorded the loss on the mound with 2.0 innings pitched moving to 2-3 on the season.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 11, Palm Beach State 12

The Lakehawks outhit the Panthers in game two 14 hits to 11 but were unable secure the win.

After taking a three-run lead in the top of the first inning, Lake-Sumter maintained it until the fourth before the Panthers tied up the score. For the remainder of the game, the two teams went back and forth, with Palm Beach State eventually coming out on top.

Spencer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs including a two-run homerun to take the initial lead in the first inning. Dannon Smith went 4-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

Carson Russell went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Auston Chisenhall also had a multi-hit game with two hits with two RBIs.

Four Lakehawks saw the mound in game two. Tyler Toro got the start, pitching 5.0 innings allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Preston James threw 1.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits. Trey Clinton closed out the seventh inning after allowing two runs on one hit.

Robert Tracy recorded the loss for the game after throwing the eighth inning. He allowed three runs to score on two hits, moving to 1-2 on the season.

Game Three – Lake-Sumter 1, Palm Beach State 8

LSSC scored just one run in the fifth inning after Spencer scored from third on a wild pitch.

The Lakehawks recorded their four hits in the series finale. Smith went 1-for-4, Ryan Monaghan went 2-for-4, and Spencer went 1-for-3 with a walk.

For the series, Spencer drew four walks giving him 48 for the season to become the new single-season walks leader. Spencer passed Colin Teegarden's record that he set in 2018 with 45 walks.

Starting pitcher Max Windham recorded the loss on the mound after throwing two innings. He allowed seven runs on five hits moving to 4-6 on the season.

Gergory Bori threw 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts. Jackson Raper pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout.

Dylan Schafer was the final pitcher for Lake-Sumter. He pitched the complete eighth inning, allowing no runs on no hits.

The Lakehawks completed the season with a 19-36 record, 9-21 in conference play and fifth in conference standing.
