Lakehawk Baseball Splits with St. Johns River State College

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Over the weekend, the Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball faced Sun-Lakes Conference opponent St. Johns River State College (SJRSC). SJRSC won two while LSSC won game three.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 10, SJRSC 16

Game one stayed close for the first few innings. SJRSC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and Lake-Sumter tied it 1-1 in the top of the third.

The Vikings took a significant lead in the bottom of the fourth after scoring five, but the Lakehawks answered back with a six-run rally in the fifth and added another in the sixth to lead 8-6.

Unfortunately, after a nine-run sixth inning for the Vikings, they took a lead that Lake-Sumter could not come back from. The Lakehawks put two more runs on the board but ultimately was not enough.

Kendal Spencer was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two walks. Dannon Smith, Ryan Monaghan, and Nate Tinder each also had three hits each, Jacob Delano had four.

Starting pitcher Tyler Toro threw four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Trey Clinton recorded the loss after allowing three runs in the seventh inning.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 3, SJRSC 8

The Lakehawk offense was slower in game two with only three runs on four hits while SJRSC scored eight runs on 12 hits.

Smith went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Carson Russell and Chris Palmi had the other two hits for the Lakehawks.

With five innings pitched, Max Windham recorded the loss moving to 4-4 on the season. Windham allowed six runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts.

Game Three – Lake-Sumter 4, SJRSC 3

The Lakehawks secured a win in game three after the game was called due to weather.

SJRSC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after a solo homerun from Maverick Stallings.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Lakehawks rallied for three runs. After Monghan, Russell, and Delano loaded the bases, Palmi dropped a shallow single to left field scoring Monaghan.

Matt Tinder followed with a single to right scoring Delano and then Palmi scored on a wild pitch.

The Vikings tied the game in the top of the fifth before the Lakehawks scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth.

Spencer led with a triple to left center and Monaghan scored him with a single to left.

Monaghan and Russell each went 2-for-3. Monaghan, Palmi, and M. Tinder each had one RBI.

Sebastian Miller earned the win with five innings pitched improving to 5-2 on the season. Miller allowed three runs on just two hits with three strikeouts.

In their six matchups this season, Lake-Sumter won once while SJRSC won five. The Lakehawks currently sit fifth in conference play while the Vikings are ranked second.
