Lakehawk Baseball Takes Series Over Palm Beach State

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball hosted Sun-Lakes Conference opponent Palm Beach State College (PBSC) over the weekend. The Lakehawks took two of three from the Panthers to clinch the series.  

Game One – Lake-Sumter 11, Pasco-Hernando 7

Game one was a come-from-behind win for the Lakehawks.

After three scoreless innings, Palm Beach State took the lead in the fourth with three and added two more in the fifth. Then in the bottom of the fifth, Lake-Sumter put seven runs on the board to take the lead 7-5.

PBSC tied the game up with a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth. The Lakehawks' eighth inning rally was enough to added four more runs which was not enough for the Panther offense to overcome.

Dannon Smith, Auston Chisenhall, Luke Bentley, and Carson Russell each recorded two RBIs in game one.

Three Lakehawks saw time on the mound in game one. Tyler Toro pitched the first five innings, Robert Tracy threw three, and Nate Tinder closed out the ninth.

Tracy picked up the win improving to 1-1 on the season allowing just two runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Toro added five strikeouts and Tinder had one.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 4, Palm Beach State 7

The Panthers took game two, the first of Saturday's double header.

The Lakehawks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but the Panthers took the lead for good in the top of the third after scoring three runs.

PBSC added two runs in the fifth and sixth to lead 7-1. In the Lakehawk half of the sixth, they scored three but it was not enough to overcome the Panther lead.

Ryan Monaghan was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Kendal Spencer and Russel also added two hits each.

Max Windham recorded his first loss on the mound of the season, moving to 4-1. Windham threw five innings allowing five runs, four earned, on three hits and six walks with four strikeouts.

Game Three – Lake-Sumter 12, Palm Beach State 3

Lake-Sumter took the series in game three with the win over Palm Beach State. The Lakehawk offense started a rally in the bottom of the second that lasted the entire game.  

Four Lakehawks had multiple hits in the game. N. Tinder went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and one run scored.

Monaghan was 4-for-5 with a double, and RBI, and two runs scored. Auston Chisenhall also went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Sebastian Miller had an impressive outing on the mound throwing six innings allowing just three runs on six hits with four strikotouts. Miller recorded the win improving to 3-2 on the season.

Lake-Sumter improved to 14-21 overall and 5-10 in conference play while PBSC fell to 14-13 overall and 7-8 in conference play. The Lakehawks currently sit at fifth in conference standing ahead of Florida State College at Jacksonville.
