Lakehawk Baseball Rallies Past Eagles in the Ninth

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball traveled to Daytona Beach, Fla. on Wednesday afternoon to play Embry Riddle JV. The Lakehawks defeated the Eagles 12-11 in the back-and-forth come-from-behind win.

The Lakehawks took a 2-0 lead in the first and added two more in the third for a 4-0 lead right away. Embyy Riddle added three in the bottom half of the third but still trailed 4-3.

The Lakehawks put two more runs up in the fourth and three in the fifth to have after the Eagles scored three more in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lakehawks maintained their lead up to the bottom of the sixth when Embry Riddle scored three more runs taking the lead 10-9.

Both teams scored one run in the eighth bringing the score to 11-10 in Embry Riddle's favor.

Down by one in the top of the ninth, Ryan Monaghan and Auston Chisenhall led the inning off with a pair of walks.

Luke Bentley reached on a fielder's choice. Monaghan tried to outrun the throw to third but was not in time.

Bentley and Chisenhall advanced to second and third on a wild pitch just in time for Carson Russell to come up with a two-run single to score two and take the lead back for good.

In the bottom of the ninth, Nate Tinder recorded two strikeouts on the mound to secure his first win of the season for the Lakehawks.

Five Lakehawk pitchers saw the mound against the Eagles. Starting pitcher Nathan Quinn pitched four innings allowing six runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

Tinder entered in the eighth to close the game allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts to record the win. He improved to 1-1/5 on the season.

The Lakehawks improve to 12-20 on the season while Embry Riddle JV fell to 12-13.

Up next for the Lakehawks

Lakehawk baseball host Sun-Lakes Conference opponent Palm Beach State College this weekend for a three-game series. Game one will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. followed by a double header on Saturday at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m.
