Lakehawk Baseball Tames Wildcats

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball hosted North Dakota School of Science (NDSCS) on Monday afternoon for a single game non-conference matchup. The Lakehawks defeated the Wildcats 5-2.

The Lakehawks scored first in the bottom of the first after Dannon Smith led off with a single up the middle.

Smith advanced to third on Wildcat errors and scored after Kendal Spencer recorded a sac fly to centerfield.

Lake-Sumter added another run in the bottom of the second when Luke Bentley reached first after being hit by a pitch. With runners on second and third, Matt Tinder hit a sac fly in foul territory left field to score Bentley.

Auston Chisenhall led off the bottom of the third with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hunter Looper followed with an infield single and Nate Tinder laid down a bunt to score Chisenhall.

Chris Palmi came next with a single down the right field line to score Looper. The Lakehawks led 4-0 after the third.

The Lakehawks scored once more in the top of the fifth inning. Spencer led off with a walk and N. Tinder followed with a single to right field.

Spencer and N. Tinder pulled off a double steal to be in scoring position for Bentley. Bentley delivered with a single to score Spencer.

Smith, Looper, and N. Tinder each recorded two hits. Spencer, N. Tinder, Palmi, and M. Tinder each had one RBI for the day.

Starting pitcher Anthony Griffith recorded his first win of the season on the mound against the Wildcats. Griffith threw five scoreless innings allowing just one hit with five strikeouts.
