Lakehawk Baseball Takes Down CCBC Catonsville on Monday

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball team hosted CCBC Catonsville on Monday afternoon at The HawksNest. The Lakehawks kept it close but ultimately secured the 4-3 win over the Cardinals.

The game remained scoreless until the third inning when Catonsville manufactured a run from a lead off hit-by-pitch. The Cardinals did not maintain their lead long as Luke Bentley tied the game up with an RBI single to score Matt Tinder after he led the inning with a single.

Nate Tinder broke the tie in the fourth inning with a two-run homerun, his first of the season. After the fourth, the Lakehawks led 3-1.

Catonsville scored one more in the sixth on a solo homerun by Miles Bowens. Once again, Lake-Sumter was able to extend their lead in the bottom of the seventh with a solo homerun by Carson Russell, his first of the season as well.

After scoring one more in the top of the eighth, the Cardinals were not able to overcome the Lakehawk lead. Freshman Preston James earned his first career win on the mound with three innings pitched, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two Cardinal batters.

Tyler Toro pitched the first four innings, allowing just one run on four hits with four strikeouts. N. Tinder earned his second save of the season with two innings of work allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts.

The Lakehawks improved to 5-8 on the season while Catonsville moves to 0-3.
