Lakehawk Baseball Sinks Pirates Friday Afternoon

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball team hosted USA Scoutz Atlanta on Friday afternoon. The Lakehawks defeated the Pirates 11-1 behind a season-high of 14 hits.

Luke Bentley led off the bottom of the first inning with a double followed by a sac fly by Kendal Spencer to advance him to third. Ryan Monaghan came next with a single to score Bentley.

Nate Tinder doubled down the right field line to advance Monaghan to third. Carson Russell produced a sac fly to score Monaghan giving the Lakehawks a 2-0 lead right away.

The Lakehawks scored two more in the third with a leadoff infield hit by Spencer. Monaghan came up with a triple to the right side to score Spencer, and then a pass ball scored Monaghan.

Levi Anderson led off the bottom of the fourth with a double. After stealing third, he was able to score on a fielder's choice bringing the Lakehawk lead 5-0.

The Lakehawks scored three more in the bottom of the seventh after three hits and capitalizing on Pirate errors.

In the eighth, Monaghan led off reaching on an error and advancing all the way to third. Tinder scored him on a single up the middle.

Russell followed with a single to move Tinder two bases to third. Tinder scored on a wild pitch and Anderson allowed Russell to reach home a single to right field.

Monoghan, Tinder, Russell, Dannon Smith, and Anderson each recorded multiple hits in the 11-1 win over the Pirates.

Freshman Max Windham recorded the win with 4.0 innings pitched. The Region 8 Pitcher of the Week allowed only one run on three hits and one walk, while retiring nine USA Scoutz batters.

Jake Dorn got the start pitching the first four innings allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out six. Tinder closed the game with three strikeouts.
