Lakehawk Baseball Downed by Seminole State

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) baseball team came out Wednesday afternoon to avenge their loss to Seminole State from earlier in the week. After a back-and-forth game, the Lakehawks ultimately fell to the Raiders 5-8.

The Lakehawks scored two in the bottom of the first to take the lead right away by capitalizing on infield errors and walks.

Starting pitcher Sebastion Miller held the Raider offense to just one hit and no runs until the top of the fifth inning. Seminole State scored two hits, an error and a pair of wild pitches to take the lead 3-2.

With the lead in the seventh, Seminole State's D. Costello sent a solo home run out of left field extending their lead over the Lakehawks 4-2.

Kendal Spencer led off the bottom of the seventh with a double. Ryan Monaghan followed with a single to advance Spencer to third.

Nate Tinder recorded an RBI with a ground ball to short to score Spencer. After seven complete innings, the Lakehawks still trailed 3-4.

The Raiders managed two more runs in the top of the eighth to lead 6-3.

Lake-Sumter continued to chip away the lead answering back with two more runs in the same inning. After Luke Bentley drew a walk, Spencer sent a missile to dead center field bringing the Lakehawk's within one run of Seminole State.

Seminole State tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth proving to be too much for Lake-Sumter to overcome. The final score was 8-5, the Raiders improved to 7-5 on the season while the Lakehawks moved to 3-8.

Miller recorded the loss on the mound with five innings pitched allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Gregory Bori pitched three complete innings allowing two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and Jackson Raper closed the game allowing two earned runs on one hit and on walk.

Spencer went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. Tinder extended his hitting streak to eight games going 2-for-5 with one RBI.
