Lakehawk Baseball Unable to Rally Past Undefeated Santa Fe

LEESBURG, Fla. (Baseball) – The Lake-Sumter State College baseball team hosted Santa Fe for their second matchup of the week on a cold and windy Friday afternoon at The HawksNest. The Lakehawks fell to the Saints in a close 5-3 game.

After a scoreless first inning, the Saints took a 2-0 lead. Jacob Guthrie launched a two-run homerun to left field.

The Saints led 3-0 headed into the bottom of the sixth inning. Ryan Monaghan led of the inning with a high inside hit by pitch.

Monaghan stole second to put himself in position for Luke Bentley to score him on a single to right field. The Lakehawks trailed 2-1 headed into the seventh.

The Saints answered back in the top of the seventh with two more runs to lead 5-1.

Rally time in the bottom of the eighth gained some momentum back for the Lakehawks.

Nate Tinder reached on a single to right field, followed by a walk by Auston Chisenhall. Tinder and Chisenhall advanced on a wild pitch Bentley.

With two in scoring position, Bentley hit a slow roller to third allowing Tinder to score and move Chisnhall to third for Jacob Delano.

The windy day wreaked havoc on the Santa Fe infield with a high fly ball to the infield by Delano, the Saints' first baseman could not put a glove on it allowing Chisenhall to score on the error.

The Saints managed to stop the bleeding and ultimately stop the Lakehawks. Santa Fe remains undefeated on the season in the 5-3 win.

Three Lakehawk pitchers saw time on the mound today. Jake Dorn recorded the loss with 5.0 innings pitched, and Gregory Bori and Tyler Toro each saw 2.0 innings.
