Baseball Looking Good Heading into Conference

Baseball Looking Good Heading into Conference

Leesburg, Fla. – It looks like the Lake-Sumter State College baseball team is beginning to peak at just the right time, winning 4 out of their last 5, heading into Mid-Florida Conference play this weekend.

The offense is coming into its own in the last five games averaging just under nine runs a contest. Chris Fergueson has hit safely in 11 of his last 14 games and carries a team high, .381 batting average on the season. The Hudson, FL native has also contributed to the team with 13 walks, seven stolen bases and a .526 on-base percentage. Ryan Monaghan leads the team with 15 RBI's while his teammate, Tim Kudlinksi, has collected 20 hits, including two home runs on the season.

Ryan Brown, 1-2 record from the mound, has totaled 37 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched for an average of 11.45 K's per nine innings. Colton Bruns carries an 11.63 K per nine inning rate, just slightly better than his fellow teammate. Evan Loesser has two saves on the year with a 2.70 ERA out of the bullpen.

Lake-Sumter (8-10) has two more games before their conference schedule begins. Webber International JV will be at the HawksNest Wednesday at 3 pm. The team's final non-conference opponent will be Palm Beach State in Leesburg on Friday at 2 pm.
