Baseball Picks Up Win on Opening Weekend

Leesburg, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College baseball team opened up with a win over Palm Beach State College, Saturday.

A tough 2-1 loss to South Florida State College was how the Lakehawks started the 2022 season. LSSC jumped up 1-0 in the sixth, but back-to-back one run innings by SF in the seventh and eighth gave the Panthers the lead going into the ninth. The Lakehawks could not muster the one run needed to send it to extra innings. Jordan Ackerman took the loss on the mound.

The bats broke out for Lake-Sumter in the second game of the day, against Palm Beach State, for seven runs on six hits. Up 3-2 heading into the sixth, four runs cross the plate for LSSC to give them a 7-2 lead. Palm Beach answered back with three runs of their own. The bullpen was able to lock it down and walk out with the 7-5 win.

Anthony Griffith got the win for the Lakehawks, the first of his collegiate career. Ian Thornton and Ryan Monaghan added two hits each and totaled three RBI's in the victory. Carson Russell added two RBI's of his own.

On Monday, the Lakehawks took a trip to Polk State College. PSC took down Lake-Sumter, 17-2. Kendal Spencer had two hits, including a double. Alberson Mogollon also collected two hits in a losing effort.
