Baseball & Softball Head Down Final Stretch

Leesburg, Fla. – The end is in sight for both the Lake-Sumter State College baseball and softball teams. Postseason implications highlight the final few weeks of play.

The Lakehawk baseball team is currently sitting at 18-20 overall and 7-11 in Mid-Florida Conference play. LSSC enters the month of April in fifth place and one win behind St. John's River State College for the final spot in the MFC Tournament.

Baseball has eight games remaining in their 2021 schedule, including six
conference games and four home games. The team is very capable of making a move and climbing in the conference standings down the final stretch of the season.

Ian Thornton leads the team in hits with 37 and crushed his first home run of the season Monday in the team's 16-2 victory over Inspiration Academy. Seth Wysocki picked up his fourth win of the season as well.

Softball is also winding down and boasts a 27-15 overall record and are 7-7 in the conference. The Lakehawks are fourth in the standings and must remain in the top four to make the postseason tournament. LSSC has 10 games remaining with eight of them against MFC opponents and four of them at home.

Morgan Johnson and Alyssa Opsahl lead their team in hitting with 48 and 47 hits respectively. Cissy Doolittle carries an 8-1 record from the circle with a 3.5 ERA on the season.
