Lakehawks Take Down Vikings in a Wild One

Lakehawks Take Down Vikings in a Wild One

Palatka, Fla. – Entering the game 2-2 in conference, the Lake-Sumter State College baseball team came out on top after an 11-inning affair with St. John's River State College.

Both starting pitchers came out strong for their respective teams with the Vikings holding a slim 2-1 lead over the Lakehawks after four innings. LSSC let loose with the bats to the tune of five runs between the fifth and sixth innings. St. John's countered with three runs over the next two innings and trailed Lake-Sumter, 6-5 going into the eighth.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Lakehawks one run lead was erased as the Vikings brought around the game tying run to send the game into extra innings. Neither team was able to scrape across a run in the 10th, but the 11th was a different story.

The Lakehawks broke out the offense when they needed it most to plate four runs in the top of the 11th. Evan Loser, who came in from the bullpen in the ninth, shut the door in the bottom of the 11th inning to get the final three outs and give his team the 10-6 victory.

Ian Brown, Alberson Mogollon, Ian Thornton and Gabriel Dorsey all tallied three hits on the day. Mogollon added his second home run of the season while collecting three RBI's. Naphis Llanos collected four walks and scored twice in the win.

Seth Wysocki started on the bump for LSSC and was solid, throwing six innings, striking out four and giving up just one earned run. Josh Scragg threw a scoreless inning before Loeser took over and earned his first win on the year.

The Lakehawks (13-11, 3-2) and Vikings (15-11, 1-1) will meet again Wednesday in Leesburg for a 3 pm start.
