Lakehawks, Winners in All Three Sports

Lakehawks, Winners in All Three Sports

Leesburg, Fla. – It was a victorious 24 hours for Lake-Sumter State College athletics, beginning Tuesday night when softball took on South Florida State College.

Excellent pitching performances by starter, Amber Griffin and reliever, Alyssa Dragovich kept the Lakehawks in the game with a 1-1 tie going into the sixth. Lake-Sumter was able to capitalize on a pair of South Florida errors with a couple of big hits to plate five runs and take the game, 6-1. Dragovich earned the win.

The bats came out hot in game two, to the tune of 12 runs on 11 hits for the five-inning run rule victory, 12-4. Cissy Doolittle earned the win and improved her record to 4-0 on the season.

Morgan Johnson led the way going 4 for 6 with two stolen bases in the double header. Alyssa Opsahl and Nicole Smith both notched three hits a piece while Kierstyn Kohlmaier came off the bench to hit a bases loaded double and drive in three runs in game two.

The weather was not as accommodating for baseball the next day as the sky was still spitting a consistent mist when the game started at 3 pm. Despite the cold temperatures, the pitching staff was on fire, tossing seven shutout innings in the team's 10-0 victory over Webber International JV.

Seth Wysocki improved to 2-0 after going five strong innings and recording six strikeouts. Matt Paulo and Gabriel Dorsey combined to throw the final two innings allowing just two runners to reach base. Evan Badger totaled three RBI's on the day, while Luke Brown and Ty Milliner both tabbed extra base hits in the win.

Volleyball hosted St. John's River State College later Wednesday night for their home/conference opener. The Vikings came into the game with a perfect 6-0 record and a No. 17 NJCAA national ranking. LSSC hit the ground running, taking the first set and never looking back. The Lakehawks pull off the upset in three straight sets (25-22, 29-27, 25-23).
