Leesburg, Fla. – After back-to-back victories, the Lake-Sumter State College baseball team has hit some recent bad luck, to the tune of three consecutive losses.

A tightly contested ball game against Rollins JV last Monday had the Lakehawks on the losing end when all said and done. With LSSC up 3-2 after five innings, Rollins was able to tie up the game in the seventh and eventually went into the ninth knotted up at 3-3. RC managed to scrape a run across to get the walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth.

Josh Plasencia (1-1) was tagged with the loss on the mound. Llanos Naphis was 2 for 4 in the game with a double, one run scored and an RBI. Kobie Leonard and Khalil Smith combined to steal four bases in the game as well.

After defeating Indian River on the road, 7-4, earlier this season, the Lakehawks played host for the second game of the series on Wednesday. Lake-Sumter went up 1-0 in the first, but the Pioneers were able to bring around two runs in the both the second and third inning to go up, 4-1. A late offensive push from IRSC sealed the deal for the 9-4 win.

Second baseman, Ian Brown went 2 for 3 on the day with a run scored and a walk. Luke Brown, no relation, hit a solo home run, his first of the season. Matthew Taubensee suffered his first loss of 2020 from the mound.

The final game of the week came on the road Friday at Eastern Florida State College. Jumping out to an early lead, the Titans scored 13 runs on 16 hits to take down the Lakehawks, 13-1. Leonard boasted a two hit performance while Kyle Badger grabbed the only extra base hit for LSSC with a double. Matt Paulo (0-2) went 3+ innings, giving up five earned runs, taking the loss.

Lake-Sumter (6-6) will be in action back at home Monday to take on CCBC Catonsville at 3 pm.
