Baseball Takes Series from Seminole

Baseball Takes Series from Seminole

Leesburg, Fla. – Winning is contagious and for the Lake-Sumter State College baseball team, it's become a full blown epidemic having won 4 out of their last 5 games in conference.

After taking game one from Seminole State on Wednesday, the Lakehawks came right back Friday to win game two, 11-4.

It was a full on hit parade for LSSC, tallying 15 base knocks in nine innings. Robbie Scott led the way with a three hit performance including two doubles, two walks and drove in one RBI. Spencer Taylor roped a triple down the line and finished the game with three RBIs. Tanner Clark, Alan Alonso and Brody Rubenstein all boasted multi-hit games.

Nick Labrada earned win number three on the season going five innings, allowing three earned runs. The bullpen combo of Colby Woodard, Quinn Echelson and Kyle Wiseman went four innings and gave up just one hit to secure the victory.

The Raiders were able to come back a snag the final game of the series with a 19-9 win. Bats were out in force in this one with 33 hits driving in 28 runs combined.

Rubenstein and Alonso collected three hits each. For Alonso, he drove his second home run of the season over the fence and also added a double in a losing effort.

Florida State College – Jacksonville and LSSC had to postpone game one of the series due to weather in Jacksonville. Game two was at the Hawks Nest Wednesday.

After three innings of scoreless baseball, the Blue Wave broke through for the first run of the game in the top of the fourth. The score remained the same until the bottom of the sixth when the Lakehawks got on the board.

Collin Teegarden led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Scott followed with a single to left field, but an errant throw allowed Teegarden to cross home plate to tie the game, 1-1. FSCJ was able to retake the lead the very next inning with one run on one hit.

It was a three run bottom of the eighth for LSSC that made the difference in the game. Three runs on three hits with RBIs from Alonso and Connor Andrews (2) gave the Lakehawks the lead heading to the ninth.

Wiseman came in from the bullpen for the final three outs. A leadoff ground out to second base, followed by back-to-back strikeouts locked down the victory for Lake-Sumter. Woodard threw two scoreless frames in relief to earn the victory.

The Lakehawks are now 13-21-1, 5-5. Friday's game was originally scheduled to be played in Jacksonville, but has been moved to Leesburg due to weather conditions. First pitch at the Hawks Nest is scheduled for 3 pm.
