LEESBURG, Fla. (Beach Volleyball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) beach volleyball teams enters the program's fourth season in 2023. The Lakehawks have 10 matches scheduled with four home matches at Hickory Point in Tavares, Fla.
In 2022, the team concluded the season at the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Small College Beach Championships at Hickory Point. LSSC's top pair Erin Ellis and returner Alyssa Guarino earned AVCA All-America recognition while the team finished second overall in the tournament.
The Lakehawks will compete in the Sun-Lakes Conference against State College of Florida (SCF), St. Johns River State College (SJRSC), and Palm Beach State College (PBSC). They will face each conference opponent twice during the season which will determine post-season standing in late-March.
Returning head coach Neal Stanley showed great enthusiasm for the upcoming season, "I am excited to start my third season at LSSC. We had a solid season last year finsihing second at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships but I am ready to get after it this year"
"I am blessed to have this group. The team is made up of self-motivated, disicplined athletes. I cannot wait to see everything they accomplish this year," said Coach Stanley.
This year, Lakehawk beach volleyball will celebrate three sophomores: Kaylin McCann, Leslie Catlett, and Alyssa Guarino. Sophomore Day will held be on March 10 at the home match against conference opponents SCF and PBSC.
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 tournament is scheduled for Mar. 31 to Apr. 1 in Bradenton, Fla. followed by the AVCA Pairs Championships Apr. 14 and 15.
