Beach Volleyball Makes History

Beach Volleyball Makes History

Eustis, Fla. – The Lake-Sumter State College beach volleyball program made history Friday recording their first ever victory.

Lake-Sumter played host to Bryant & Stratton College – Wisconsin. The weather was not favorable with harsh winds and temperatures in the upper 50's. LSSC was down one pair on the day.

The Lakehawks came out firing on all cylinders grabbing four straight victories from all their pairs competing. The result was the team's first victory of the season. "The team had to work through very harsh conditions," said Head Coach, Nate Camnitz. "You cannot replicate that environment in practice and for them to come out and play the way they did, I was very proud of them.

State College of Florida – Manatee-Sarasota was LSSC's competition in the second half of the tri-match. Hailey Franklin and Katie Carpenter were the only pair to win their match with the team falling 4-1. Several of the other matches went to a third and decisive set, but the Lakehawks were unable to claim another victory.

"This weekend left us very excited for the development of not only our team, but for JUCO beach programs as a whole," Camnitz said. "It is going to be very exciting seeing where we go as a team with the sport rising across the country."

A tri-match with Tusculum College and Florida Southern College is the next event on the schedule for beach volleyball. The match will take place at Florida Southern College March 14 beginning at noon.
