Lakehawk Softball Takes Two from Hillsborough Community College

TAMPA, Fla. (Softball) – Behind 20 hits and 13 runs scored, Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball defeated Hillsborough Community College (HCC) 7-4 and 6-2 in Tuesday evening's double header.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 7, HCC 4

HCC got on the board first with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Lady Hawks added another in the bottom of the fifth for a 2-0 lead over Lake-Sumter.

After five scoreless innings, the Lakehawks found some runs in the top of the sixth. Hits from Savannah Ellis, Payton Parkes, and Megan Wright tied the score at 2-2.

Sammi Thomas and Emma Chisholm led off the top of the seventh inning with singles. Ellis came up with a hit to the left side to score Thomas from second.

Alexis Adams contributed another Lakehawk run with a sacrifice fly to score Chisholm. Parkes came up next with a double to center to score two more.

Wright followed Parkes' lead with a triple to the right side to record her second RBI of the game giving the Lakehawks a 7-2 lead headed to the bottom half of the seventh.

HCC scored two in the bottom of the seventh but their efforts were not enough to overcome the late Lakehawk rally.

Megan Wright went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Savannah Ellis and Payton Parkes each recorded two hits and two RBIs.

Ellis recorded the complete-game win on the mound improving to 3-0 on the season. She allowed just four runs on six hits with six strikeouts.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 6, HCC 2

The Lakehawks brought the offensive momentum into game two putting 10 more hits on the board in the win.

Macie Bourgholtzer led off the top of the first with an infield hit. After making her way around the bases, she scored the first run on a wild pitch.

In the top of the second, Chisholm blasted a two-run homerun, her third of the season.

Alexis Adams added another run to the Lakehawk lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly to score Ellis from third.

The Lakehawks tacked on two more runs to solidify their lead in the top of the fifth after a lead off walk from Chisholm and a pair of back-to-back singles from Adams and Parkes.

HCC tried to battle back from the six-run deficit by adding a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth, but were unable to shake the Lakehawk pitching and defense.

Chisholm was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Adams was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Bourgholtzer and Ellis added two hits and two runs scored each.

Region 8 Softball Pitcher of the Week Kaitlyn Duquette tossed the complete-game win on the mound to improve to a 3-3 record. She allowed just two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight.

The Lakehawks improved to 6-8 on the season while HCC moves to a 4-5 record.
