No. 15 Lakehawk Softball Falls to Seminole State Friday Afternoon

LEESBURG, Fla. (Softball) – Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball hosted Seminole State College (SSC) for a double header on Friday afternoon. Seminole State took both games by mercy rule, 17-4 and 16-6.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 4, SSC 17

Game one between the Raiders and the Lakehawks remained close in score until the last inning when the Raiders went on a 14-run rally to record the win.

In the top of the third inning, the Raiders got on the board after scoring two runs. The Lakehawks chipped away at the lead to answer back in the bottom half of the frame scoring one run.

SSC added one more run in the top of the fourth before Lake-Sumter took the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Seminole State solidified the game one win in the top of the fifth inning taking advantage of several Lakehawk errors. The Raiders defeated the Lakehawks by mercy rule 17-4 in five innings.

The Lakehawks had eight recorded hits as a team in game one. Jordyn Anderson and Alexis Adams each had two hits and one run scored.

Starting pitcher, Anderson recorded the loss on the mound with three complete innings pitched. She allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 6, SSC 16

Lake-Sumter made a great effort in game two to overcome the loss from the first game, but ultimately fell short to the Raiders for a second time.

SSC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lakehawks answered back in the bottom of the first taking a 3-1 lead. The Raiders tied the score in the top of the third before the Lakehawks took the lead back 4-3.

SSC tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth and followed in the sixth with a huge 10-run inning. Lake-Sumter tried to battle back in the bottom of the sixth in their last-chance at-bat, but only managed two runs resulting in a game two mercy rule decision.

As a team, the Lakehawks had a total of 14 hits from 10 different batters. Emma Chisholm went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a homerun.

Anderson and Adams had two hits and an RBI each. Alex Baez also blasted her first career homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kaitlyn Duquette recorded the loss on the mound with two innings pitched. Duquette allowed two runs on five hits with one strikeout.

The Lakehawks, still looking for their first win, move to 0-6, while the Raiders improved to 5-1. Lake-Sumter and Seminole State will meet again later in February for double header at SSC.
