Williams’ No-No Leads #19 Softball to a Pair of Mercy Rule Wins

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Softball) – Behind 24 hit and 24 runs, the Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball team recorded a pair of mercy rule wins over Trinity Baptist College on Friday afternoon. Freshman Kayley Williams tossed her first collegiate win paired with a no-hitter in game two.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 12, Trinity Baptist 1

The Lakehawk bats were live in game one of Friday's double header.

Lake-Sumter took the lead in the top of the first after Kreighton Steinke dropped a two-run single to left field. Reese Snipes followed in the second with another two-run single.

In the top of the fourth, Raquel Camgulia scored Desiree Romeo with a double to left field extending the lead 6-0. Headed to the top of the sixth, Molly Bender, Camuglia and Alex Adams each blasted homeruns.

The final score from game one was 12-1 in five innings with the Lakehawks recording 11 hits.

Mia Lovett recorded the complete-game win of the season with five strikeouts. Lovett improved to 3-4 on the mound.

With the game one win, the team set a new single-season win record with 33 for the year after the 2018 and 2021 Lakehawks with 32.

Head Coach Jay Miller shared his thoughts about the team, "Reaching the win record was something the girls wanted to do. They talked about it and wanted to leave their mark on the program.

"They have achieved so much as a group and individually this year, but every time they reach a milestone someone says 'we are not done yet'.

"They are an amazing group," said Coach Miller.

Additionally, Coach Miller, in his eighth season at the helm of the Lakehawk Softball program, hit his 200-career win milestone. Coach Miller's career record at Lake-Sumter is now 201-220.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 12, Trinity Baptist 0

The Lakehawks came out with the same offensive power as they did in the first game getting a 1-0 lead from the first inning.

In the top of the second, Bender blasted her second homerun of the day, scoring three. Then, Reese Snipes stepped up and launched her ninth homer of the season extending the lead 5-0.

The Lakehawks put up two more runs in the third and two in the fourth before Camuglia hit another za

Williams had her best outing of the season so far, tossing a no-hitter for her first collegiate win. The Lakehawks defense put Williams on their back as she had just one strikeout for the game.

"I am incredibly proud of her; no-hitters don't just happen. She has been putting in the work in the bullpen and it is showing," said pitching coach Abbey Primavera.

Lake-Sumter improved to 34-14 on the season. Trinity Baptist fell to 6-25.
