TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Softball) – Sophomore pitcher Ali Shenefield and sophomore outfielder Desiree Romeo were named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 Division II Softball Players of the Week on Tuesday morning.
Desiree Romeo – Player of the Week
Romeo earned the first Player of the Week honor of her career after hitting .538 (7-for-13) last week in six games. She had one double and one triple with seven runs scored, four RBIs, and four stolen bases.
Against Daytona State, Romeo went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs. She also recorded a pair of stolen bases against both Wisconsin Lutheran JV and Morton College.
For the season, Romeo is hitting .359 with three doubles, two triples and one homerun. She has 19 RBIs and is 22-for-24 in stolen bases.
Ali Shenefield – Pitcher of the Week
Shenefield earned her third conference honor of the season after tossing a program-first perfect game against Morton College.
In five innings, she faced 15 batters and struck out 13. Shenfield's 13 strikeouts put her in third in program history for strikeouts in a single season as well as the most for a single game in known history.
For the season, Shenefield is 13-0 with 90 strikeouts and just a 0.90 ERA. She currently leads all three stat categories at the conference level as well.
