No. 17 Lakehawk Softball Splits Double Header with Daytona State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Softball) – The Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) softball team traveled to Daytona State College on Tuesday afternoon for their second matchup of the season. Daytona State took game one 9-1, Lake-Sumter took game two 11-6.

Game One – Lake-Sumter 1, Daytona State 9

The Lakehawks had their historical 11-game win streak snapped in game one against Daytona State. Lake-Sumter was held to just one run on six hits with two errors on defense while the Falcons scored nine runs on 12 hits.

The Lakehawks took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first but it did not stick long. The Falcons put two up in the bottom of the first, two in the second, two in the fifth and three in the sixth to end the game early by mercy rule.

Desiree Romeo, Molly Bender, Raquel Camuglia, Kreighton Steinke, Alexis Adams, and Alex Baez each recorded one of the six Lakehawk hits on the game. Camuglia had the lone RBI.

Darian Pippin recorded the loss after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Pippin moved to 8-4 on the mound for the season.

Game Two – Lake-Sumter 11, Daytona State 6

The Lakehawks got a better jump on the Falcons in game two scoring 11 runs behind 15 hits and just one error defensively.

Romeo was the offensive leader for the Lakehawks after going 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Reese Snipes, Camuglia, Steinke, Adams, and Pippin all added two hits as well.

Mia Lovett pitched 4.0 innings recording the win for game two allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout. Lovett improved to 2-3 on the mound for the season.

Freshman Kayley Williams pitched the back half of the game in relief for Lovett. Williams recorded the save allowing just two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.

The Lakehawks improved to 22-10 on the season.

Up next for the Lakehawks

The Lakehawks will travel to Clermont, Fla. on Thursday, March 16 to play Spoon River College and Wisconsin Lutheran at 2:00 and 4:30 p.m.
